           The Forest Research Centre (FRC), Hyderabad, of Indian Council of Forestry Research & Education started functioning under the administrative control of Institute of Wood Science and Technology Bangalore, since July,1997. The centre was initially known as 'Advanced Centre for Biotechnology and Mangrove Forests'. This, however has been changed to 'Forest Research Centre, Hyderabad'. The office cum laboratory building construction work started in March 1998 and the same was handed over to the centre on 1st  March, 2000 .The building complex was formally inaugurated  by the Hon’ble Minister of Environment and Forests, Govt. of India, Sri.T.R.Balu on 15th November 2000. The research work started from 2000-2001 onwards to meet the research needs of the southern dry deciduous ecosystem of the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Goa on various aspects in the field of forestry Research.

Location 

The Centre was established in a sprawling  100 Acre campus on the outskirts of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India, The centre is situated about 22 KM from the Secunderabad Railway Station at Dulapally village on a link road between Kompally (on NH 7) and Bahadurpally Village (on Hyderabad-Narsapur  Road).
